England's All-Rounder Sam Curran Confidently Asserts No Fear Against India in T20 World Cup Semi-Final
England's all-rounder Sam Curran has declared that his team will enter the T20 World Cup semi-final against India with unwavering confidence, stating that their primary objective is to silence the boisterous home crowd. The match, set to take place in Mumbai on Thursday, will see England face off against the favorites and hosts in front of a passionate 35,000-strong crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.
Curran, who plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Mumbai Indians, believes that his experience in the league will help them overcome the intimidating atmosphere. He shared, "It's an experience as a young cricketer you dream of - playing India in the semi-final of a World Cup."
Curran, who was once on the international sidelines, has made a remarkable comeback to the England squad through his impressive performances in T20 franchise leagues, including the IPL. He added, "India are a quality side, but we've played a lot of cricket here. We know how to play on these grounds and what to expect."
England's first encounter with a hostile crowd at the Wankhede during the tournament, where they defeated Nepal in a thrilling final-ball win, was a testament to Curran's composure. He delivered the crucial final over, conceding just five runs when Nepal needed 10, to secure the victory. Curran has since repeated this feat against Italy and has been a valuable contributor with the bat, scoring 149 runs so far with a best of 43 not out.
Curran concluded, "We're not fearing anything, and I'm sure both teams are really excited by the challenge. If the crowd is silent, England is probably doing well. That's our positive way of looking at it."
This will be the third consecutive T20 World Cup where England and India have met in the semi-finals, and England has emerged victorious each time, ultimately going on to lift the trophy. In 2022, England defeated India by 10 wickets in Adelaide and went on to win the final against Pakistan in Melbourne. Two years ago, India won in Guyana by a dominant 68 runs before beating South Africa in Barbados. The final is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Ahmedabad, with South Africa and New Zealand set to compete in the first semi-final on Wednesday.
